Optis und ILCA – 30/31 August 2025

“Heute müsst Ihr Gas geben!” said Carsten. His tone showed he wanted us to do well. The Schwielochsee Pokalregatta was the first after the summer and I was quite excited because exactly one year ago I sailed this as a new Opti A. I was looking forward to seeing a place I knew and to seeing my friends again.
The first team effort was to make a nice circle of vans and tents so we all could talk with each other. When we went out on the water for Friday training there wasn’t a lot of movement. We tried to do a trim start and sail up to Carsten on a light cross-wind. It was quite challenging for the heavier sailors because they had to try to keep up with the lighter ones. We continued with that until the wind gave up then went in for dinner.
Everybody ate together and had nice conversations. The sailors played poker in our small group then we went to our beds at the end of a calm evening.
On the first regatta day there were wind twists and lots of wind gusts. I found them tough because sometimes they came out of nowhere. I would be sailing normally and would happily do a tack on a wind change to have a good course to the buoy… but then suddenly the wind would turn back! We managed three races. I felt tired because it had been a very energetic day.
Segleressen was schnitzel with mashed potatoes and vegetables. We ate well. After a big round of table tennis we were all ready for a second dinner so we joined our adults for a grill. Then another round of poker at a cool circular table we found over in the cafe before bed.
It was a very slow day 2 of sailing. Carsten had us go on the water last. We were rocking our optis to get to him faster. We couldn’t sail since there was hardly any wind. After practising a few trim-starts we had zero knots so stopped and just waited for the wind to come. When it did, the start boat immediately put up the 5-er flag so we could finally get one race behind us. While we were sailing the wind suddenly got weaker until there was almost nothing. We were lucky to manage that one race.
Our results: 2nd Leo Mügge GER1313, BYC; 3rd Amadou Ba GER1884, SVAB/BYC; 4th Lilli Mügge GER2161, BYC.
ILCA4: 2nd Julius GER 158166, BYC
Well done to all participants.
Paul Wackermann Kwai, Opti A
